International Power Provides Update on 2,400 MW Phase 1 - Mmamabula Project in Botswana
(London – 23 June 2008) Together with its partner CIC Energy Corp. (“CIC”), International Power has been engaged in the development of a large scale (2,400 MW) coal-fired power project in Botswana to supply electricity to South Africa and Botswana to help meet the high and growing demand for power in the region.
The significant scale and particular complexities of this project, combined with the current tightness in the EPC market, has meant that this project can not be completed as envisaged with the preferred EPC contractor.
Together with CIC, International Power is exploring alternative project configurations and other EPC options to take this project forward with a risk reward balance that is in line with International Power’s investment criteria.
