(London- 4 December, 2000) Today, International Power plc announced the appointment of Joe Cofelice to the positions of Chief Executive Officer and President of the company's American National Power (ANP) subsidiary. Cofelice, who had been ANP's Chief Operating Officer, will succeed James Moore, who will be leaving the company on amicable terms.

"I would like to thank my friend James Moore for his years of leadership in building American National Power," said Peter Giller, Chief Executive Officer of International Power. "James' enduring legacy is the extraordinarily talented management team and deep bench he assembled at ANP," Giller added.

"As our 4,000 megawatt construction program in the US nears completion, ANP is continuing its evolution from leading project developer to first class power generator," Giller said. "Joe Cofelice is uniquely qualified to lead ANP at this critical time; his appointment reaffirms International Power's strong commitment to our US business, as he has been deeply involved in our strategy development and implementation from the beginning," added Giller.

James Moore said, "the ANP team has created a premier independent power company with top-notch capabilities in trading, marketing and operations as well as in construction, acquisitions and greenfield development. Joe Cofelice is an outstanding energy executive, a great person and the right leader to take the team forward."

International Power has a threefold strategy in the United States. We will seek to maximize the value of our portfolio of investments and development operations by focusing on optimizing the operations of our power plants, building an asset-based energy trading and marketing business and trading assets to maximize value.

Mr. Cofelice has been with American National Power and its predecessor company for 14 years, where he has served in a variety of senior roles including Managing Director of Transpower, an independent power development company based in Dublin, Ireland; and several executive positions with TEVCO and ESBI Energy.
